Personal Statement
Coach:
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my personal statement. My name is Griffin M. Baker and I am a senior (2016) LHP/1B at Northern High School in Durham NC. It is my intention to play baseball at a college or university that has a strong academic reputation and an athletic program with a demonstrated commitment to supporting and developing its student athletes both on and off the field.
I have had the very good fortune of playing the game of baseball extensively since I was five years old. My father coached my little league and travel ball teams and as the son of a coach, I have a unique and extensive knowledge and understanding of the game. I have been taught to play the game with attention to the details. My hard work and dedication has allowed me to play a significant role on our varsity team much earlier than most other players. I have been in our starting pitching rotation for three years and for the last two seasons have been the starting first baseman when I am not pitching. We have made the state playoffs and finished first or second in our conference in each of my three years on varsity.
Of all the accolades I have had throughout my baseball career, my most cherished award to date is the Coach's award I received as a freshman varsity starter. It is extremely important to me to play the game the right way. I pride myself in making my teammates better by setting a high standard of performance and personal conduct at all times, regardless of the score of the game. I have often heard that I am essentially another coach on the field and I know my attitude makes our team better. This type of character both on and off the field is what I will bring to your program.
