Personal Statement

Growing up adversity was a thing my family came to know well. Losing my father at a young age, my mom always had to work hard and money was never in abundance, but somehow, she always managed to keep us in busy and pushed us academically. She would say today that she kept us in sports so that we were too tired to misbehave. I have always known, though, that she would do anything in the world to make sure we were healthy, happy and pursuing our dreams. My older brother played soccer;  so naturally I had a soccer ball at my feet from the time I could walk. I played soccer for years and learned that teams are like your brothers, coaches became my stand in dad’s and big brothers. I learned to work hard, to push hard, and learned who I wanted to be. I learned to suffer losses with my head up, to fight back even harder the next time, and to pick my defeated opponent off the ground.  Most of all I learned that hard work and consistency are my greatest tools and that there is always more work to be done.  All lessons that have carried through to today, where I am known for my persistence, hard work, athletic power and accuracy, an acute understanding of the game at hand, and most would say my humor and heart on and off the field. .

At age ten, though, my world view of sports was dramatically changed when I finally convinced my mom to let me play football. The coaches, the team, finally getting to tackle and not get punished, and especially the excitement of a game of friends who quickly became brothers. I quickly found that football was in my blood. Everything about the game excites, left me longing for the season to start every year, pushed me harder and offered me more success than I had ever known.I discovered my talent at the position of kicker in the seventh grade when my middle school coached lined up the team to see who had the best kick-off. I was tall, fast, had good hands and a smart awareness on the field so I primarily played cornerback, running back, wide receiver, and even quarterback and did well at all.  Each year, though, I was also assigned the secondary position of kicker and each year continued to learn grown and excel, was pulled up to varsity my freshmen season and my sophomore year started on varsity for my 7A high school team as Punter and KO. Additionally, I began intermittent training and camps with Kohl’s Kicking in the eighth grade. Freshmen yeasr at Kohl’s Summer Academy I won the PAT consistency competition for the high school division and placed fourth in the kick-off competition. I was moved to varsity after Freshmen season and the rest is documented well.  My goal is to continue to grow as a kicker, to continue to be a part of a football family, and to continue  pursuing academic excellence as I move through college and into my future.

Currently ranked 4.5 stars as a kicker and 4.0 stars as a punter 3with Kohls kicking and plan to be 5 star in both before my senior season starts. In the top 100 since freshmen year for kicking.
