Personal Statement
I would like to attend a university that will be able to give me an opportunity to compete athletically and academically. Playing Division 1 football has always been a dream of mine and I have literally had to fight to get an opportunity to hopefully do so. I am no stranger to adversity. I have had to overcome many obstacles to get to where I am today. The spring of my freshman year I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus during a school football game. However, I was more disappointed that I would not be able to assist my team for the regular season. It was obvious that I would have been a key part of the defensive scheme. I knew that I would have to mentally toughen up and focus on my recovery; if not for me than for my team. I remember constantly thinking to myself, that my injury was meant to happen. It was a test to see if I had what it took and the courage and will to keep fighting to come back as strong, or stronger, as I was before my injury. I am now a junior and have recovered 100%! Throughout my recover, I heard many negative remarks and listened to many people doubt me and tell me that I shouldn’t keep playing. Always saying, “You’ll probably only get hurt again.” However, what they don’t know is that I am the type of person that loves proving others wrong. If I am told that I can’t do something, I will most definitely try with all my might to prove them wrong. Don’t misunderstand me though, I do not play football to prove people wrong, I play because it is my life. I can’t imagine life without football! I am passionate about the sport, and have aspirations and goals that I hold myself accountable for. When I set my sight on a goal, I'll do whatever it takes to get there. I am just looking for the opportunity to prove my worth. My motto is… “Work hard and the rewards will follow.”
