When this last football season came around, I was very excited for it all, and I thought about my last JV season as well as my entire football career and considered myself as one of the better players at our Class B school. I was little high on my pedestal with my abilities as a football player. I knew I wasn’t the biggest kid, but I thought I packed a punch. It was at the beginning of summer when our entire team was invited to the CNS Thud Camp. At the camp, we are the smallest school being compared to CNS, FM, Auburn, etc., but that didn’t scare me at all. After the first play against FM, I got hit with a reality check, and it all raced through my mind. Looking back, I wondered if I actually trained hard enough and questioned if maybe I wasn’t as good of a football player as I thought I was. It only got worse from there on due to us finishing with scrimmaging the really big schools, overall, not a very fun experience. At the end of the day, I was pretty beat up and I realized that the sport I love is going to be a chore if I don’t do anything about it. Since that day, I have been motivated and assured that football is what I’m meant to do and provide my full, undivided effort to making sure I don’t end up with same mentality that I had at the camp.
I am very lucky to be apart of the recent State Champions Cazenovia Lakers Football team due to its success and popularity among CNY. The program has made it to 5 consecutive Sectional Championships, and it was an honor to play in the most recent. Throughout my experience with playing football with my team since Pop Warner, I have learned many life lessons, such as sacrifice and that you gain a lot more from a loss than a win, and I’m a better person today because of it. I have also developed unbreakable bonds with people I would have never thought I’d be friends with. I am confident that you will not regret giving me a chance because my passion and knowledge for the game is well above your expectation, and I assure you I will make a great asset to your team.
