As a football athlete, I have learned much about myself by playing football. This sport has taught me many attributes that make me into the student-athlete I am today. In football, I have learned that while my job as an individual player is important, I also know to trust my teammates to do their roles. It takes all of us working together to be successful on the field. I have also learned perseverance. Through perseverance, I have learned to work through tough times, even when things are difficult. I realize I am a part of a team, and quitting is not an option. Over the years, I have learned endurance and hand-eye coordination. I have worked hard at football to learn to hustle. As I have grown in confidence, height, and weight, I have become more aggressive. I have also learned to deal with pressure and take direction well. The more I play football, the more I learn not to let the pressure overwhelm me. I have learned how to take direction from my coaches, which has helped me through school and my life.
One attribute that my coaches have always praised me for is being coachable. I listen to the suggestions they give me, and I work to improve. Another area I feel that I am good at is when asked to try something new in football, I step up to the plate and try it. This is how I began long snapping. Lastly, I am a multi-sport athlete. I play football, basketball, and baseball. Playing three sports causes me to cross-train, able to learn from multiple coaches, and develop more mentally, which makes me an all around athlete. Also, I was chosen by my school to show prospective families around our school’s campus. I have also received the “Sargeant’s Coin” at my high school. The coin means “a high standard of strength, courage, honor, and integrity.” God has blessed me with many gifts, and I hope to be able to use these gifts in college.
