Personal Statement
I have loved the game of basketball since I can remember. As much as I may have to offer to the game, I value what the game still has to offer me.It is more than a game to me. Every important lesson in life can be learned on the hardwood. Among many other things, basketball has taught me teamwork, leadership, perseverance, and, in the pursuit of excellence, humility. It is important to me to be part of a team, but I also know that making the team is only the first step toward building a team. I have played on every kind of basketball team imaginable from 4th grade recess to organized high school and club basketball. And, while I have often lead those teams statistically, I didn't start truly leading those teams until I recognized how to acknowledge and build on my teammates' skills. It feels great to hit that game-winning shot, but in order to be a great leader and have a great team, it has to feel just as amazing when your teammate does the same. I have learned how great that feels, and that is what I will bring to a team. The values of teamwork and perseverance also stay with me in academics as well. I want to continue my studies and carve a path that leads to giving something back to the world. My goal is to positively contribute to my school academically and athletically while I determine the course of my future. I know that playing basketball will be a huge part of that dream.
