After a lot of research, soul searching, and self-reflection, I am very fortunate to have set two clear goals that I would like to accomplish in the near future:
One thing that sets me apart from others is that I always put my words into action. When I set a goal, I'll go above and beyond to accomplish it. When I was in middle school, I set a goal to make the Varsity basketball team as a freshman for my Division 1 high school. I spent those years training hard and sacrificing time with friends and family. I not only made the Varsity team my freshman year, but I was the starting point guard. Being the starting Varsity point guard for the last two years has given me the opportunity to learn so much. I have learned the values of leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. It has taught me how to handle pressure, manage my time, and stay focused.
My varsity experience has also improved my basketball IQ. I am an unselfish player with great court vision that loves to get my teammates involved. One of my greatest strengths is my speed. I LOVE to push the ball in transition. But I am also good at slowing the game down when necessary. Coaches have told me that I am great at “controlling the tempo of the game.” I recently received compliments from a coach. He told me that I was a “great facilitator.” And he referred to me as a “floor general.” I feel like my ball handling and passing skills are above average. As the point guard and player taking the ball out of bounds for the varsity team, I only averaged 1.7 turnovers while playing in the toughest conference in Central Ohio. My high intensity defense also sets me apart. I love being assigned to defend the best guard on the opposing team.
Off the court, I'm also very focused on my academics. I love studying and researching ways to grow my knowledge in real estate and business. I plan on taking college courses my junior and senior years of high school to work towards my goal of a college degree. I currently run my own online clothing and shoes resale business. I also work closely with my parents helping them out with their landscaping and real estate businesses.
Basketball has been such an important part of my life since I was 5 years old. I feel like it has taught me so much and has helped me develop important life skills that will help me be successful in other areas of my life. I am so grateful for the opportunity to play basketball up to this point, and I am really looking forward to future opportunities.
