My name is Lane Ludwig and I am in the class of 2024 at St. Anthony High School in Effingham, Illinois. I am interested in playing golf at the next level. I understand the commitment and hard work it takes to be successful. I have watched my brother Luke (SIUE) and my sister Macy (Illinois Wesleyan) be successful at the college level and have learned a lot. Including their commitment and hard work both in the classroom and on the golf course. I am very motivated to learn more about golf and challenge myself to be better. I am willing to go the extra mile to reach my goals and aspirations.
As for academics I have maintained a GPA above a 3.5 and been on the honor roll many times. I learned the value of education at a young age and how it will always be good for me and my future. Knowing how important education is, I have achieved many of my goals I have set in the classroom.
I have been on the golf course ever since I could remember. Golf has always been in my life. I have learned a lot from my golf coach Mike Moncel (EIU head coach), my dad and my siblings including swing tips, improving my mindset and life lessons. I am a very hard worker and I’m always on the range or short game area when I feel I need to work on something.
As a teammate I am a strong leader. I want the best for my teammates and will point out something that I see is out of order or tell them what I think they should work on. I will go out of my way to motivate teammates. Saying things like “keep your head up we need you” or “keep it up.” I will never give up because I have learned the hard way that one stroke matters!
My goals for college include getting a good education that will set me up for the future. I want to be on a golf team with a fun group of guys and play golf at a high level.
My greatest accomplishment so far has been winning the 2022 1A Team State Championship. Our team shot 297 on day two to come from behind and win by 5 strokes (I shot 77). I won the low scorer award on my team with the most counting scores during the year. Scoring average was 77.6 (17 eighteen hole rounds). Here are a few other accomplishments:
I won the Champaign Centennial tournament shooting a 1 under 71.
I won the Prep Tour at Ironhorse tournament shooting 151 (75-76)
Played in the US Junior Amateur qualifier and shot 76, top 10 finish.
