Personal Statement
Like thousands of other candidates, I've been playing ice hockey since I was 6 years old. Aside from tournament teams and special tournaments, I've played for just 2 primary teams, the Delaware Ducks AA out of Newark, DE and Team Comcast/Virtua Hockey AAA from Pennsauken, NJ. I currently attend Concord High School in Wilmington, DE. where I maintain a respectable 3.43 GPA. I'm a hard working student and athlete. I'm president of the Concord High DECA Program and am also the manager for the school store. My goals regarding college are to focus on business and entrepreneurial studies as I would like to be a business owner in the future. Specifically, I would like to study business applications regarding sports fitness or sports science.
I'm a dedicated and loyal player as well as a hard working student. I may not be the tallest player on the ice, but I play big and physical on the blue line. I pride myself on defensive responsibility and being aware of whats happening in all areas of the ice at all times. I have an offensive edge to my game in that I've always been one of the fastest skaters on every team I've played on. This allows me to skate up and join an offensivve rush when necessary. My on ice focus and work ethic has made each team I've played for a better team and I will bring that level of dedication and focus to any college team that I am privileged to represent.
That same level of dedication on the ice is what I bring to the classroom as well. Like many college applicants, I am probably not the best test taker, but my semester grades prove that I am a great student and excel in my classes. I am responsible, have a great set of parents, surround myself with good kids, and mentors, and I avoid negative situations and individuals that may take away from the goals I've set for myself. I've been assistant captain on my AAA, chosen as MVP on my AA team, have been lucky enough to represent my team at USAH Nationals twice, and enjoy being in a leadership role when possible. I volunteer at The Pond Ice Arena as a skating coach to Delaware area youngsters in our local "Hockey 101" program and enjoy the opportunity to share my enjoyment of ice hockey.
I believe that my character, work ethic on and off the ice, and my dedication and focus on my goals will make any institution proud to have chosen me to represent their school.
