My name is Ethan Joshi, I am a multi-sport athlete that is currently attending Gentry Academy in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota for my Senior year. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 165 pounds. My U14 season I won the USA Hockey National Championship with the Carolina Junior Hurricanes and led the forwards on the team in scoring. I also played lacrosse on the Carolina National Team and travel lacrosse on the Red Devil United 2022 team. In my first year of high school lacrosse I played Junior Varsity and was voted Offensive MVP by my coaches.
Last season I played hockey for Gentry Academy. Due to COVID we weren't able to co-op with another school for lacrosse, so I was unable to play lacrosse but intend to play my senior season.
Due to the MN high school hockey rule; not permitting out-of-state players to play on varsity their first year unless they are freshman, I was unable to play Varsity my sophomore year at Gentry. After my first season there, my coaches told me that they were excited that were going to have me on their varsity roster the next year. In October 2021, during the first games of our split-season 18U AAA team the HC Sotans, I suffered a broken fibula and a torn ligament in my leg that had to be surgically repaired. I was able to receive my surgery within days of my injury and was told that it would take eight weeks to heal and that I wouldn't be able to play hockey until the end of March 2021. However, I focused on my education and rehabilitation and was able to be released to return to Gentry in time to participate in tryouts the first week of January 2021. My coaches told me that they were starting me on JV to improve my conditioning and strength in preparation for Varsity. As I was preparing to transition to the Varsity roster, a COVID outbreak impacted both hockey teams, putting us in quarantine, cancelling 3 games and also shutting down practices for two weeks. This happened right before the MN High school State hockey tournament. During my post-season meeting with my coaches, they informed me that I was about to be pulled up to play on varsity for the remaining games and the State Tournament however, after the quarantine, the loss of games and practice time left them unable to pull me up. While this set-back was disappointing, I spent the spring and summer cross training and I am now bigger, faster and stronger than ever. My most recent blue line to blue line time was clocked at 2.23 seconds and I competed in two junior level tournaments over the summer and was offered a spot on a Junior roster after the first practice during the first tournament weekend. I understand that not having junior year season video may put me at a disadvantage in the recruiting process, but I will not let this deter me. I am a self-driven athlete, determined to compete at the college level. I perform very well in the classroom as evident by my 3.87 GPA and I believe that this combination of drive, athletics, academics, and perseverance through injury makes me a strong recruiting candidate.
My coaches describe me as a player who is extremely coachable with a strong work ethic and drive to get better everyday. They always praise me for my speed and my tenacity on the puck in the offensive and defensive zones. My goal is to play hockey at the highest level that I can while also achieving my academic goals. I want to study exercise science or environmental sustainability so I can immediately make an impact in the world when I graduate from college.
