Personal Statement
Both academics and athletics are very important to me. While playing hockey is much more enjoyable than school work, I know how important getting a good education is and continue to improve every day in the classroom. I really enjoy learning about the business world and got to see how a business functions this summer while I worked at a local high-end racing bike store dealing directly with prospective customers. I have been playing as an ice hockey goaltender since I was eight years old and have been fortunate to have a very supportive family who constantly stresses that the difference between good and great is hard work. I know that size and talent can only take an athlete so far and I have received great coaching both in Canada (Jon Elkin in Mississauga,Ontario and now with Arizona Coyotes) and here in the States (Mitch Korn - Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals) which has given me a foundation of sound goaltending fundamentals and a strong mental side to my game. Most important, I always expect to be the hardest worker on and off the ice and to bring positive energy to the locker room as a leader. I have met my idol Pekka Rinne in person and try to model myself after him as both a person and a goaltender. Hockey has given me so much already with friends from all over the world, travel to places I never would have gone and a sense of purpose to do well in school. Being on the road most weekends, I have learned to manage my time well and to be organized. I will continue to do everything in my power to earn the opportunity to play at the highest level of college hockey that I am offered and I know that I will be an asset to both my school and team while earning my degree and playing the sport which is my passion.
