I have been playing soccer since I was 10 years old. I started in a recreational team that used to practice right across the street from our new home. A few months after I signed up, a coach from a competitive team, who had been watching me playing for a few weeks, asked my mom if she would let me move to the competitive program. Since then, something that started as an extracurricular activity has turned into a full-time engagement that helped me stay focused and committed to a demanding practice schedule, learn new skills, improve my soccer IQ, but most of all do what I love doing, and want to do for many years to come.
I started playing as right mid because my coach recognized my speed, my strength and my ability to run the line. Even though that became my position for a few years my coaches always recognized my ability to move to different positions if needed, and to play well. Four years ago, my coach at the time asked me to substitute for the right back who was injured, and since then I have really enjoyed playing in this position. I think it has increased my soccer IQ tremendously, because it has given me a more broad vision of the field and a more tactical approach to soccer. I am not your typical defender in the sense that I still use my speed and my ability to bring up the ball along the line, a skill I honed playing as a right-mid.
I have had the opportunity to attend a Milan Academy in Italy for three summers, and for the past three years, since I started playing with Miami Breakers FC, my summers have been busy training and playing at the USYS Southern Region Regional Championships and at USYS National Championships. In February of 2023 I participated with my team in MIC Football in Barcelona, Spain. Playing with national teams and with international teams has added to my motivation of becoming a soccer player. Playing against very strong players is always a challenge but a motivation as well. It shows me what I can do, what I can do better, and where I want to be in the near future.
Athletics are part of my school life as well. Since 9th grade I have been invited to play with the Varsity Team at Coral Gables Senior High School. I have had a pretty demanding school schedule so far, dense with AP courses and Dual Enrollment classes. I have a solid GPA, and my goal is to study physical therapy. In many years of sport and injuries I have become interested in understanding how our bodies perform, and in how to prevent and solve any problems that arise from intense physical activity. I think the study of the human body is fascinating and it has helped me to understand better certain conditions I have experienced over the years. My goal is to find a college that will allow me to reach my potential both academically and athletically.
