Personal Statement
Soccer has influenced my life greatly. I first came to play soccer when I was in seventh grade. I had just come from my private school back to public school, and had quit football. I needed a sport to keep me in shape for wrestling. I was in top physical shape as a seventh grader and very fast, so the Freshman team coach decided to give me a chance and put me on the Freshman team.
I quickly fell in love with soccer and decided I wanted to play on the High School team and play at the College level. After training rigorously over the summer before my freshman year, I ran a 12:07 two mile and tied the two fastest seniors. Out of 30 freshmen trying out, they took 6 freshmen on the Junior Varsity team. I was not only on the team, but I was the only ninth grader to start every game. This was when I first started playing holding mid. I was able to not only utilize my athleticism but also my high level of academic intelligence to become a skilled tactical player.
This whole experience of joining a sport where most to the players have been playing since they were in kindergarten, taught me that hard work pays off. This situation sets me apart from other recruits because it shows I am extremely coachable and willing to work hard and set goals to develop myself faster than the average player. I joined PA Classics Soccer Club because I knew I had the physical athleticism and I needed experienced training to further develop my tactical abilities on the field.
All of this helped me develop into one of the most respected soccer players in my grade. While working hard on the field, I was putting a similar effort into my schoolwork. I only take advanced courses because I like to be pushed to a high standard. I took both Honors Algebra II and Honors Geometry my freshman year. Now in my Sophomore year, I am taking both Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry on top of Honors Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry, Honors English and AP World History. My goal is to take the AP World History exam this year and take the AP Chemistry and AP Biology exams by the end of my junior year. Overall, it is my ultimate goal to establish both a strong academic resume as well as an athletic resume so I can attend a very competitive well regarded college or university and play a sport where I excel.
