Personal Statement
Matthew Nicholson Personal Statement
I decided at a young age that I wanted make tennis a focus for my personal growth. When I was nine years old I was in a bicycle accident that caused a serious injury which was life-threatening (transected my pancreas). This experience taught me to not take things for granted and to experience life to the fullest.
Freshman year we went to state semi-finals. I was playing number 6 on the team and number 3 in doubles. Although we did not win the state championship, this experience taught me cooperation, commitment, and focus.
My tennis game has improved during my high school career because of my physical growth. I have grown six inches since the beginning of my freshman year. I have increased my fitness plan to make me quicker, more agile and flexible. In addition, my academics have improved as I have gone through my high school experience.
I am looking for a program that can challenge me academically as well as athletically. I have the work ethic to perform to my fullest both in the classroom and on the courts.
