Personal Statement
My name is Erik Fredrickson and I am a senior sprinter. My current focus is to pursue an engineering program at a midwestern university, but I am continuing an AP course load to help me narrow my field of study. With the support of my high school coaches, I switched from competing in hurdling to sprinting at the end of my junior year. I have since been training during the summer club season to improve my sprint technique while running at the regional and national levels. This experience has inspired me to continue my training and reach my goal of competing at a collegiate level. Since switching to sprints later in the year, I expect my times to improve this fall going into the indoor season as a result of my focused training.
My eight years of martial arts training and competition, while obtaining the rank of third degree black belt, has carried over the strong work ethic and self motivation needed for me to succeed while working towards better sprint times. Martial arts has also given me the opportunity to develop leadership skills through teaching younger students, and is reflected in my position as a high school track captain.
I am excited to continue my track career in a supportive and hard working team environment.
