My interest in volleyball began by watching my sister play with her school and club teams. When I was big enough and "good" enough, we used to pepper for hours in our backyard, which taught me ball control, discipline on defense, and how to enjoy the game while staying focused. She's been my unofficial coach since I began playing and has had a lasting impact on my skill and love for the sport.
By playing for two differently skilled teams I have learned a lot about myself and the game. Playing for a high performance club has taught me the basic fundamentals and has made me stronger. The thing that has changed me the most is the stress caused by the high expectations. Having to constantly perform up to standards has made me more mentally tough and has allowed me to forget about mistakes quicker and easier. Playing at a high performance club has given me confidence and has disciplined me to refine myself. My high school experience, although less rigorous, has taught me more than I could have imagined. Moving to a less skilled team with only 4 club players has given me a leadership opportunity and a place where I can have fun with school friends. Playing for a less competitive team with an underdog mentality has given me a new sense of pride, as well. We were able to take down better teams and have fun doing it. The overall experience left me more confident in my skills and more excited to play with my club team.
I would like to take more AP and honors classes and keep my straight A's. I would like to go benefit the school I go to for athletic and academic reasons.
