Personal Statement
Hello, My name is Sarah Joseph. I am currently a Junior at Northside College Prep, class of 2016. A special aspect to note about my school is that it is a selective enrollment school and currently the number one school, academically, in Illinois. In addition it has consistently ranked in the Top 50 schools in the nation according to Newsweek and US News and World Report. Due to going to school in such a strong academic environment, I bring to the table a robust academic resume. I get straight As and I have the desire to maintain these grades, for no other reason but to have the satisfaction of giving my best. I bring this satisfaction to the field as well. I used to be very unskilled in softball but I worked hard to learn the game. I was once described by a former coach as sponge; I listen and absorb what is presented to me, be it a new skill or information. I have been playing competitive softball since third grade. Due to this, I have acquired the time and experience usually associated to long-term commitments. I am now a three sport athlete, with softball being my primary sport, captain of Varsity Softball, and have been the starting Varsity pitcher for the last 3 years. Plainly speaking, I love the game. I love the lush, green grass in the bloom of spring, the dirt marks on my uniform after I slide into home, the exhilaration gotten from fooling someone on my changeup. I may not be the tallest player (as I am only 5’1”) or the fastest pitcher (averaging, on a good day, 55mph), however I do have a special place in my heart for softball and the willingness to work hard to improve on my skills everyday.
