Personal Statement
My name is Claire Kitchel and I am a 2021 graduate from Logansport High School in Logansport, Indiana. I am a three sport athlete, but my focus is on softball. I have been active in local softball teams since I was 4, but began playing with travel clubs when I was 8 years old. In my early years, I was blessed to be coached by my father, a 2001 Anderson University pitcher and graduate. Since then, I’ve opted to work with different coaches and have adjusted to different coaching styles.
Today, as the oldest of 7 siblings, I not only participate in my own athletics, but I also help coach my sisters’ local travel clubs. I love this opportunity to mentor the next generation of softball athletes.
Along with softball accomplishments, I also take pride in my academics. I have maintained an accumulative 4.333 GPA on a weighted-scale (a 4.0 on a non-weighted scale). My school has done away with class rank, but I am a distinguished scholar in the top 3% of my class of around 260. I am active in multiple clubs, including Key Club, Travel Club, Spanish Club, Pep Club, Berry Buddies, and I am a class officer in Student Council. I was also chosen to represent my school at the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference (HOBY) held at University of Indianapolis. My future plans are to major in English and History and play softball in college.
I have used determination and perseverance to get where I am, both in the classroom and in my jersey. I look forward to attend a University that shares the same values of hard work, discipline, and integrity that I do.
