Personal Statement
My goal is to play softball at a small to mid-sized college, with a good balance of academics and competitive sports programs. I would like to major in biology, with my ultimate goal to become a veterinarian.
I have played softball since age 6, and travel softball since age 10. I was the starting pitcher on TC William’s JV team as an 8th grader, helping the team to a record 11-5 season. My freshman year I started for varsity, helping a developing team improve from 2 wins in 2013 to 5 wins in 2014. Unfortunately due to a careless accident of another player in March of 2015, I suffered a relatively-severe concussion preventing me from playing softball my entire spring season, and missing two months of school. I worked very hard the last month of school in 2015 to simply finish classes, although my grades suffered my sophomore year (3.7 freshman year, 3.1 sophomore year, 4.0 junior year, 4.67 senior year to date).
By summer of 2015 I was cleared to participate in softball again, competing at a high level with the 18U Tsunami Travel team. Although my first few games back were a little rocky, I finished the Fall season very strong. I have excellent control, and I have developed a very effective change up, which makes my fastball appear even faster.
Spring 2016 I helped TC Williams finish with the best record in recent team history while competing against some of the best H.S. softball programs in the state (South County and Lake Braddock). Although TC William's H.S. Softball is still a developing program, I'm very proud of the complements I have received this Spring. Randy Yates, the assistant coach at South County H.S. (former state champions) said, "She did great against us...she is far and away the best TC pitcher that TC has ever had."
I am a great candidate because I am a leader on and off the field. My prior travel softball coach actually called me "coach" because of my ability to lead my team and my deep understanding of the game. My current travel coach uses me as the “go to” pitcher when the game is on the line. I’m confident I will be able to contribute and help lead a team at the collegiate level.
