Personal Statement
I am a very coachable athlete and look forward to getting corrections to make myself a better diver. I also love helping the younger divers on my team, by giving them corrections and encouragement when needed. As a former gymnast, I began diving in the summer of 2019 after being forced to quit gymnastics after a chronic back injury. In a few short months, I trained extremely hard and was able to accomplish many goals such as all-conference, all-sectional (runner-up with 429.15) and became an Illinois state qualifier, finishing 21st. I also broke a 21 year old 6-dive meet school record with a 266.10 this season and broke the 20 year old 11-dive meet record with a score of 447.3. I was all-conference and all-sectional (runner-up) for the second year in a row. Unfortunately there was not a state meet this season due to covid, but I was the 13th highest score for all the Sectionals listed in IL. I believe my gymnastics background gave me a great dive foundation, not only with respect to the requisite skills, but also by instilling a strong sense of discipline which pushes me to be the best I can be.
I am a great student (4.2/4.0), and have been inducted into NHS and Science NHS at my high school. I also really enjoy volunteering in my community by helping at local animal shelters and helping with assorted church and school activities. I actively babysit local kids and really enjoy spending time with them. I’m viewed by both my coach and teammates as a leader because I lead by example, have a positive attitude, and believe that putting in the work at practice translates into success.
