Tell coaches about your collegiate goals and aspirations-
While my immediate goal includes playing soccer for a D1 collegiate team, my long term aspiration is to pursue a career in sports marketing/sports broadcasting. I understand that balancing such a rigorous major with an intense practice and game schedule will be a challenge, but I feel that my academic and athletic background has prepared me to find success. My current school’s motto states a commitment to “Mind, Body, and Spirit” for all students, and I believe that I fulfill that in my efforts in school, soccer, and life. This past year as a freshman, I maintained all A’s and B’s in my classes, played for both Varsity and travel soccer teams, and participated in a number of school and community outreach activities. It is my hope to continue in this commitment in college, working toward my goals within all aspects of my life. For this reason, I want to attend a program that supports similar personal growth, pushing me to become my best self physically, mentally, and emotionally.
What makes you a good candidate for their team?
As a competitive player since the age of 6, I have had the opportunity to play on a number of teams and have seen what makes both good and bad teammates. Because of this, I learned what to do and what not to do in order to best help my team. I feel my strongest quality as a teammate is my ability to effectively communicate with players, coaches, and staff. I recognize the strengths and weaknesses in myself and my teammates and want to find ways to use those strengths and improve upon those weaknesses in any situation. I have found that the best way to start tough conversations is with a foundation of mutual respect, so I work hard to create an environment of trust and inclusion on my team. This makes me a team leader who can assist my team on and off the field. One way I have been able to fulfill this role is through my athletic skills. I am passionate about the sport and want to do anything I can to become a better player.
What makes you different from other recruits in character, athletics and academics-
I think the trait that makes me stand out from other players is my willingness to learn. Whether in the classroom or in a game, I always want to find new ways to push myself to do more and be more. I am not afraid to ask questions when I don’t understand something, ready and willing to try something new and out of my comfort zone. A quick learner, I have been told that my “coachability” makes me an asset to any group. As a result, I can play a number of positions with confidence, though I prefer center and right back. I understand that the only way to improve myself is to be willing to learn from my mistakes and my successes, and I encourage others to do the same. I want to be the kind of person who inspires those around me because of my positive attitude and desire to succeed through further education.
