Personal Statement
I have always loved the water. Going to Grandma's house and swimming in the pool was, and still is, one of my favorite things to do. Growing up I participated in a wide variety of sports and extracurricular activities, from gymnastics, to soccer, ballet, water-skiing, theater and even a performing choir. My freshman year of high school I was invited to try out for the swim team, and I fell in love with the sport of swimming.
My competitive spirit drives me in all areas of my life, but particularly in swim where I practice hard and I push myself beyond what I thought I could do. This has enabled me to continuously improve my technique and thus improve my times. I am a hard worker, and I have learned that this sets me apart from others in the pool. I do what my coach asks of me both in the water and during the week with my eating/sleeping regimen. I complete swim workouts even when we visit my Grandmother in Yuma, Arizona, my sister in Provo, UT and my cousins in Casper Wyoming. In fact, swimming with different teams, in different cities solidified my desire to swim competitively in college.
My high school peers elected me as Team Captain my junior year. Partially I was nominated because of my dedication to swimming, but mostly I believe it was because of my desire to include and encourage my teammates to do their best. I cheer and lament with my teammates over victories and injuries, and together we work hard to accomplish our goals. As a freshman I was invited to and attended the 3A Utah state meet. I have worked hard to improve and attend every year. After my high school freshman year I joined Dixie Aquatic Race Team, and have been swimming year-round ever since.
I work hard both in the pool, and academically. Furthering my education is important to me and I have consistently maintained a 4.0 GPA, in order to allow me to attend a great university. I have taken both AP and honors classes, to challenge myself and expound upon my knowledge. All this hard work has enabled me to test well, and has created opportunities for me at Universities around the country.
I am excited to go to college, and I believe I am ready to step up to the next set of challenges both in swim and in academics. I look forward to talking with coaches, visiting campuses and getting acquainted with future teammates.
