Personal Statement

I am currently a rising junior at Thomas S. Wootton High School, graduating in 2023. I have a strong academic background with a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 4.73 weighted GPA at the end of my sophomore year of high school and am currently on track in my junior year to maintain or improve my GPA. I have an SAT score of 1520/1600, a PSAT score of 1460/1520 and I am in the eligibility pool for the National Merit Scholarship consideration. Currently, I am enrolled in the Humanities & Arts Program at my high school, and looking towards achieving the AP Capstone Diploma upon successful completion in my senior year.

I started playing tennis when I was 6 years old and have been playing competitive junior tennis since I was 10 years old, both Mid-Atlantic sectional and national level (L1, L2, and L3) tournaments. I have had a passion for playing tennis since I was a child admiring my older sister playing tennis. I believe training and competing in tennis helps develop and shape my character as I grow up as a person with honesty, integrity, mental toughness, and time management skills. I have competed in several team events such as zone championships, inter-sectionals, spring team national championships, JTT championships, high school tennis, etc., which I believe has given me a great platform for playing and contributing to college tennis in a team environment. I have always enjoyed and excelled in playing doubles with sound net skills and a good feel for the game, and have contributed to the team's success in several team events in the past. I believe I can bring the same attitude and success to a college team. I have a very good work ethic with a positive attitude and mindset to embrace a team environment, and I am always willing to listen and learn from others. My current UTR is about 8.0 in singles and 8.5 in doubles, and I am listed as a 4-star player on tennisrecuiting.net.

I am currently thinking about pursuing a major in Economics with either Computer Science or Data Science as a minor.  My goal is to have a good balance between academics and having a great experience playing collegiate tennis.
