Personal Statement
My name is Rebekah Markovitz and I will be a 2015 graduate of Atholton High School in Columbia, Maryland. I have always been involved in athletics at a very young age. Since my elementary school years, I have played on travel club soccer teams and started to double sport with track and field when I was 11 years old. I feel that cross training has been a great benefit to my successes in both sports. I also participate in Atholton's dance company to help improve my flexibility and agility. Participating in sports provides structure and motivation in my life, which I feel is extremely important. The minute I started track, I fell in love. With track being more of an individual sport, I knew I had to work hard physically and mentally to be successful. When it comes down to it, only you can help yourself run your best race. When I was successful, it was the best feeling in the world and I wanted to feel that way again. My love for the sport of track and field continued to grow. I am currently competing in track and field on the club and high school levels in local, Regional, State, and National competitions. As a junior, I am a six time letter winner on my varsity soccer and varsity track squads. In track, I am a starter and an "A Team" member on both my club and high school teams. I received the honor of "Most Improved Athlete" and "MVP" on my track team as well as the Coaches Award for my soccer team. I also received the honor of making "First Team All County" my sophomore indoor season. Since I started running competitively, I have become inspired to compete at the collegiate level. I am a Principal's Honor Roll student and take honors and GT courses. I carry a 3.9 GPA and 4.38 weighted GPA. My desire is to attend a college where I am able to challenge myself in the classroom and on the track. I consider myself a very dedicated student athlete and have very high standards with balancing a vigorous academic and athletic schedule. I am currently interested in majoring in Communications. I am very excited to start searching for a college or university that will best suit my goals both scholastically and athletically.
