I originally started running cross country when I didn’t make the volleyball team. At first, I decided that I would just not play a sport that fall and sign up for various clubs, but my parents convinced me otherwise. However, after years of gymnastics, being active was a very important part of who I was, and joining a sport was a great way of meeting like minded people. I was planning on running to stay in shape anyways, so I decided to email the cross country coach at the time and sign up. What I didn’t realize when I joined the team is that I would go on to be the fastest on the team, go to state multiple times, and even break the school record for the 1600m during my sophomore track season. Not only have I found success in running, but I also found an amazing community of people that I truly believe I will stay in touch with after high school.
Outside of running, I am involved in multiple clubs and organizations. My education is very important to me, and I think a large part of that involves immersing yourself in your community and learning about different cultures besides your own. I have been a part of the club Roots and Shoots since my freshman year, and I will be the head of the Children’s Committee for NHS this upcoming school year. This past school year I was an online tutor who taught underprivileged youth, and this summer I volunteered at Regions Hospital. While still managing extracurriculars and all of the things that come with being an involved member of a team, I have been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA and take numerous accelerated classes.
I am looking for a college that will support me both athletically and academically. I believe that I have still not reached my limit, and I have a lot of ambitions for the future including both race times and career goals. I am a hard worker, and not only will I push myself to my limits but I will encourage others to push themselves and achieve their goals as well.
