Personal Statement
My name is Haley Fitzgerald and I currently attend Mesquite High School in Gilbert, Arizona, where I will graduate in 2018. My parents are Mike and Angela, and I have a younger brother, Braden. My family comes from Colorado and Wyoming, so I enjoy all seasons! My plans are to go to a college where I can best use my strengths and abilities. I would like to major in the business field of marketing. Nursing and health sciences are also of high interest to me. I enjoy the thought of working in or running my own business, helping others, and using my creative side.
I love to engage and have fun with teammates but also be competitive and focused. I am described as outgoing, kind, coachable, and a spirit lifter to others. While I enjoy playing indoor and sand volleyball, I also work hard and play the best I possibly can. I set goals for myself whether it’s a simple skill in a game or go for the bigger goals such as playing in college. I push myself to achieve my goals and believe I have the ability to do anything I set my mind to. I continue to practice my volleyball skills and ask questions when needed. I began playing volleyball at the age of 9 and by the end of my senior year, that will include 6 years of club volleyball and 3 years of varsity volleyball. I can play any front row position, as well as defense and serving. I feel confident in my skills and what I can help bring to your program, both personally and for your team. I am flexible to play anywhere in the country.
With regards to my academics, I have learned that asking for assistance is not a bad thing. Early in my high school career during a tough time for me, there were a couple classes that I took for granted and eventually I asked for some help from a tutor. This type of thought has taught me that I can succeed as it just takes a little help from others to do so. My grades continue to climb as I work very hard to excel toward my goals. Most weeks out of the school year require great time management between indoor, club and sand practices along with my school load. I want to find a college that has a strong academic advisory program that is interested in my academic success and goals.
In short, as my talents in the classroom and on the court continue to improve, I feel more confident about life after high school and college. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share my personal statement with you. I hope that I am on your radar!
