Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Mackenzie Berlin. I was born in Woodland California, a small farming community outside of Sacramento and now reside in Rocklin, a larger foothill community east of Sacramento. I am a Senior at Whitney High School. I have been on Varsity for 3 years, and I was also brought up from JV to Varsity my Freshman year to help in playoffs. I was just named All Metro by the Sacramento Bee Newspaper. When I was a Freshman, I attended Woodland High School. By the end of my Freshman year, I had decided with my parents to move to Rocklin, to receive a better education and higher level of competition on the volleyball court. Moving has taught me to always be myself and do my best whether it be with my school work or volleyball.
One reason I love the game is because it's a team sport. I know that as a Captain, one of my responsibilities is to keep everyone positive and give my encouragement to my teammates. I also love the game because I love winning. If my team isn't ahead in a game, the challenge of working through it and pushing my teammates to overcome the deficit is something that I am confident in doing. Getting help from coaches really means a lot to me, and I always take what they say and try and make myself better. Spending extra time outside of practice is something I feel is important as well. Whether it be working with a trainer, taking extra hitting lessons or even making sure I'm eating right, those are all things that help me improve my game and I'm willing to do that.
Next year, I see myself at a 4 year University. I can't wait to play volleyball at the collegiate level, live in the dorms and make lifelong friends. I would love to go somewhere where I can study Criminal Justice and Psychology. After college I want to work for the Court of Law, but my life long dream is to work in the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. One thing I will always do is play volleyball, or have something to do with volleyball, like coaching at the club or high school level.
Although my path is still undetermined, I know that where ever I go, I will welcome the new challenges and do my best to make my parents, family and coaches proud. Can't wait!
