Personal Statement
My family has never really been one to be wealthy. In fact, not even close. My parents failed to keep my sister and I in one spot throughout our youth but we always had something to eat and we always had a roof over our head. even if that was somebody else's roof. through this I was always trying to find an escape from home when i can see my friends around me and I wouldn't have to worry about home for a little bit. They hit a spot financially that they felt it was the best decision to give my paternal aunt guardianship of me and me sister so we can stay enrolled in the Jeffco area. My sister and I lived there for almost 6 years. My maternal family is really active in sports and one of our main sports we have played there every year at our reunion was volleyball. This is the time i became interested in volleyball. I started doing after school volleyball at North Arvada Middle School. Unfortunately at this school there wasn't enough players willing to play and commit to play competitively. Arvada high school started a program for middle school athletes to come together from different schools and form a team to play competitively against each other. I did this until 8th grade, and at this time i met Coach Olivia Andrew. Olivia has to be on of the most influential people in my life when it come to volleyball and real life. I always know i can come to her for anything and everything. She continued to be my coach my freshman year of high school, of which i was a starter on varsity as a setter. the end of that season i was 34th in league was was awarded honorable mention on top of my varsity letter. Without her support and effort she puts into me to be a better player i don't think i would be willing to even play college volleyball. A situation at my living space caused it to be unavailable to live where me and my sister have been living for long. My great aunt on my maternal side was willing to take my sister and I in for as long as it took. my mom came in the picture and she was living there with us in Washington state for 18 months. During these months i maintained to stay in sports as well as i could from the pandemic. I played JV my sophomore year and i learned a new sport softball that i played on JV. When i moved back June 8th 2021, i was re-enrolled my junior year into Arvada High school. i'm playing on varsity this year as setter and right side as secondary. though the journeys I've been through in my life was a long one I wouldn't be who I am today without it. I'm coach able, reliable, I'm social, I a little goofy sometimes but i always know when to be ready. I'm competitive but i don't let my losses overtake me. I've learned that it sucks to lose but i had a good time playing. From losing i learn what not to do next time loosing only makes me improve in the long run. right now I'm willing to do club and was offered a half scholarship. Unfortunately, at this moment in time August 28th 20201 i was tested positive for Covid 19 so everything is on hold for me right now. i am though as soon as I'm well going to attempt to try out at dive volleyball in Arvada Colorado.
