When I was in 4th grade, I went to a close friend’s volleyball game. I thought that volleyball was the coolest thing ever and I was immediately inspired to play. I talked to my dad about it and he began to coached me shortly afterwards. When I was in 6th grade I tried out for the Middle School Volleyball team, however I was unsuccessful in making the team. After finding out that I didn’t make the team, I was devastated, however I was determined not to let this detour me from achieving my goal of playing volleyball. Three days after receiving the news of not making the Middle School team, I tried out for the Springfield Shock Volleyball club and not only made the team, but was selected to be the captain during my first season. My perseverance and hard work continue to pay off as I not only made the team, became a starter and was selected as “Most Improved Player” during my 7th grade season. Each year since, I’ve applied the motto that my dad instill in my brother and me: PLC/PLC, which is an acronym for Practice Like a Champion/Play Like a Champion. My coaches at both the High School Level and Club level has acknowledged that my determination to become the best player I can be and for my work ethic, I have been selected as one of the team’s captains as well for both teams.
While I am focused on the court, I’m more focused in the classroom. I’m currently on the High Honor Roll and on track to become a member of the National Honor Society. This focus on the court and in the classroom will transition from high school into college. .
Outside of GOD, I love everything about volleyball. Ever since being introduced to the sport, I’ve felt comfortable in the gym. I have tried other sports like basketball and soccer, but nothing else has come close to volleyball. With GOD’s help, I’m truly excited about where volleyball is going to take me.
