Personal Statement
My name is Julia Hutchings and I am looking for a college where I will be able to thrive in both athletics and academics. I will be graduating in 2018 from Edgemont Jr/Sr High School located in Scarsdale NY.I plan to go on the Pre-Med track. This past summer, I had an internship with a OBGYN. The internship made me realize that I am very passionate on this study. Because I come from a very diverse family where my father is British and my mother is Japanese, I am bilingual and my first language was Japanese. I would like to continue my ongoing study of this language and therefore am interested in also obtaining a minor in Japanese. I have been a starter on my school Varsity Volleyball team since my Freshman year, and was a starter on the Junior Varsity Team in the 8th grade. From 2013-2015, I had been a part of the top travel level teams at the club Alpha Gamma. In 2016 I played at Downstate Juniors Volleyball Club on the 16s National Red team and in 2017, the 16s National Black team. This year I am playing on the 18 Black team. My main position is as an Outside Hitter, but I have temporarily played in my secondary positions as a Opposite Hitter and Defensive Specialist. I truly love the sport and I believe that there really is nothing that can compare to the feeling I get when I jump in the air and kill the ball or when the ball hits my arm(s) on a hard dig. I enjoy the sport because I can never stop learning new techniques, get to be my loud, true self and get to work with teammates and coaches that I love and constantly learn from.
