Personal Statement
My name is Cecylia Guye and I will be a 2019 graduate of Saint Joseph Academy in Cleveland, OH. I am a 6’1” Middle Hitter on the high school varsity volleyball team and with Maverick A.C.E. Volleyball Club. I have been a starter on National and Elite JO club teams for four years, competing in both the AAU’s and GJNC’s. I will be heading into my fifth year on the 17 Elite team with Maverick. With the St. Joseph Academy Jaguars, I was awarded Varsity letters my freshman, sophomore, and junior years; helped win District titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017, Regional titles in 2016 and 2017, and advanced to the State Final Four in 2016 and 2017, and finished this season as OHSAA Division I State Runner-Up.
Academically, I am currently maintaining a 4.22 GPA (4.59 weighted GPA), earned a 30 on the ACT, and participating as a Peer Tutor. Additionally, I am working towards recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Before being introduced to volleyball by my Aunt, who competed at the University of Cincinnati as a starting Middle Hitter, I swam competitively for the local YMCA Swim Team and competed in soccer, basketball and track. Later, I earned a 2nd Degree Brown belt in Kenpo karate.
My early involvement in athletics taught me the importance of teamwork, commitment, perseverance, and sacrifice. Not only do I have the talent to compete at the college level, but the discipline, leadership skills, and mental toughness, as well. I am well prepared for the next level and look forward to becoming an even stronger and smarter player, teammate, and student with a Division I or Division II college program that's a good fit for me academically and athletically.
