Personal Statement

I love the challenge of matching wits with the pitcher. I love the sound and feel of driving a ball hard into the gap. I love the comradery of the dugout. I love honing my swing in the cage. I love so many things about baseball that I am eager to continue my play into college, and maybe beyond. I have worked hard on my swing and I was gratified to hit my way into my high school’s starting lineup sophomore year – finishing first in OPS for the season and top 3 in AVG, OBP and SLG by the end of the season - and to help my high school win the North Coast Section championship for the first time my junior year.

As a dedicated student athlete, I am seeking a rigorous academic environment in college and plan to study International Relations and Economics. My high school is academically challenging and I am proud of my 3.8 GPA, especially since the teachers often say “a B at Athenian is an A anywhere else”.

Despite my achievements so far, things have not come easy for me. My freshman year, I mysteriously started losing weight (I dropped from 135 pounds to 120) and found it hard to focus in school, causing my grades to suffer. By spring I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and was put on medication at the end of the school year. I have since committed myself to self-improvement both academically and athletically, and have caught my peers in the classroom, the weight-room and on the baseball diamond. I am now more driven than before and more confident that I can overcome whatever life throws my way - and crush it.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
