My name is
Matthew Vanaman. I am a
sophomore
at Cedar Creek
High School in
Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. I started playing baseball at five years old. I have
always had a passion for the game and a desire to play and learn as much as I can. I
have been on a travel baseball team for nearly 5 years, and during this time, I have
developed many strong relationships with both players and coaches. I currently
play travel for
the FS Prime American, as well as my high school team, the Cedar
Creek Pirates. Last year as a freshman, I was switching between JV and Varsity
and received the JV MVP award. It was a rewarding experience that will help me
to prepare for my sophomore season coming up.
I play multiple positions, including pitcher, first base, third base, and outfield.
Playing the game is a rewarding feeling. Whether it is striking out a hitter when I
am on the mound, or getting a base hit at a pivotal point in the game, the
atmosphere is amazing! The motivation that you get with coaches, teammates,
family, and other fans behind you is a feeling like no other!
I look forward to stepping onto the field for each game and striving to perform to
the best of my ability. I never want to let my team down. In September of 2022,
while pitching against the 5
th
ranked team in the country at a Perfect Game event
(WWBA) in Florida, a sharp hit ball was fired back right at me with little time to
react. The ball struck me and I went down, but I was able to get back up and
continue pitching well. I did not want to let my team down. Nothing is better than
getting a nod of reassurance from my coach that I did something good. My travel
team coach is very supportive and consistently finds new ideas and strategies to
help me improve. I am very appreciative of this.
I spend hours practicing whether it is with my team, at home by myself, or going to
my hitting and pitching coaches on a weekly basis. I also go to the gym to prepare
for baseball season.
I continually strive to make myself better. I want to be faster,
smarter, and stronger. I push myself to achieve my goals in getting better and
growing in all aspects of the game, so that I can play at a college level. I love the
game of baseball and the challenges and opportunities that it brings. I have made
so many amazing memories in my journey so far and I look forward to making
more in the future.
