Hello, my name is Maxwell Illuzzi and I live in Westwood, New Jersey. I was fortunate enough to grow up with my mom and dad and four years ago my little brother Rocco was born. From the minute I could pick up a baseball I was hooked, it all started with my town rec-baseball team; the rest is history. At the time my dad was a volunteer coach and to this day he still is. We can be found most times outside throwing the ball around or arguing who really is better at the sport. My mom, well she is my number one fan, she always has my back, and she supports me in everything I do: good or bad.
I am Cuban, Italian and French, I come from a very supportive family, and I am especially close to my Cuban grandfather. My parents are first generation American and because of my unique background, I have learned how to work hard for everything I have. From an early age, I have been taught to respect others, never take for granted what I have and to always be humble. My dream has always been to have my grandfather watch me play baseball at the highest level, but sadly he was placed in an assistant living facility due to early onset Alzheimer and has lost the ability to walk.
Baseball is truly my outlet; I have learned a great deal about myself on the baseball field. I take what I have learned, and I apply that to every aspect of my life, education, family, friends, and I hope to apply the discipline I have obtained one day to my career. Besides baseball, I am an avid weightlifter and I volunteer with local churches within my area. One program, I am very passionate about is a program called SPEC. During the spring, I volunteer with this program to help young adults who have developmental disabilities learn what I love most, baseball. This program has taught me so much and to see the joy on the participants faces as well as the smiles from their families; well that just makes my day.
I hope to be an asset to my future team and coaches and look forward to growing as an athlete and a person.
