Personal Statement
My name is William Hovey and I am a 2022 graduate at Carrboro high school. I take all honors and an AP class this year and am aiming for a 30+ on the ACT.
I have played Varsity at Carrboro since my Freshman year (though 2020 was cancelled due to COVID). I mostly play second base, but I am a versatile player so occasionally the coach plays me at SS or CF. I am most comfortable hitting second in the lineup. I’m a right-handed contact hitter, but regularly show pull power. I’m a very competitive ball player and want to push myself to always get better.
I want to go to a medium-large college and study Journalism and/or Communications. I want to progress my baseball career further in college and compete with good players.
I’ve always loved baseball for a plethora of reasons. One of them being the fact that it’s a very competitive individual sport once you step into the box. I also love the team aspect and being able to push myself and my teammates to the max of our skills in order to perform at our best. My best moments come with my teammates and the memories we made while competing.
I’m excited and ready to make the next steps towards my academic and baseball career. College baseball has always been a goal of mine and I’m ready to make it happen as well as improving my education at an excellent school.
