My goal is to attend a top academic DIII or DI college and to join a highly competitive cross country and track program. I am interested in pursuing a liberal arts education focused on the sciences. I like biology, environmental science, psychology, cognitive science and Latin among other subjects. I also enjoy reading and listening to music.
I made an immediate big impact in running when I reached high school. I am a three-time individual state champion . As a freshman, I won state championship races in cross country and track (indoor and outdoor 3200m). That same year I ran my personal best 5K in the Foot Locker South Regional. In my sophomore year, I helped my cross country team win a second team state title in cross country in two years. As a Junior, I received individual all-state honors finishing the state championship race in the top ten for the third consecutive year. Much credit goes to my coach, her coaching staff and many supportive teammates.
Growing up in North Carolina, I was active year-round, participating in organized soccer (often on boys teams), summer swim league, and local road races with my father and twin brother. In middle school, I played competitive girls club soccer on travel teams. I liked mid-field, since I could cover more ground and play both ends. Finally, in the eighth grade, I gave up soccer to focus on track and cross country. I set my middle school records for the 1600m and the cross country home course.
This has been a year like no other. Our 2020 high school cross country season in North Carolina was delayed by 2-3 months due to the pandemic and we've had 100% remote learning in my hometown for 12 months. Our state XC meet was held in January. In normal times and in times of adversity, I embrace challenge and continually strive for excellence in both academics and running.
I am excited about my next chapter in college.
