Personal Statement
I am Donny Shimko, class of 2020. I attend Greater Latrobe Senior High School in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. At Greater Latrobe Senior High, I play on the varsity baseball team along with the varsity basketball team. I am a scholar athlete, maintaining a GPA of over 3.6. When I am not playing baseball for my high school team, I am conditioning and playing for the Pittsburgh Outlaws. My positions are third base and middle infield, but I can play anywhere my team needs me. I am not afraid of hard work and challenges because it makes the success that much sweeter.
In addition to playing baseball, I am active within several leadership groups within my school community. I am an active member in the Link Crew, the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. My faith is very important to me and helps me stay humble, determined and on the right path.
I have many important people in my life that have provided me with guidance throughout my journey, but my most inspirational role model is my late grandpa. I try everyday to live my life and play the game of baseball the way he taught me. We spent many hours together either fielding groundballs or hitting of the tee. Before he passed, he taught me to do my best, love and respect the game and that is something I will always take with me.
