My name is Maddux Munson, I am a 2027 graduate and I am looking forward to playing baseball at the highest level I can achieve. I have always played high competition level baseball, I like to be challenged so I can become the best player I can be. I have always looked to play with teammates who challenge me and make me better each year. I am someone who will set goals and will work hard to make those goals happen.
In 2017 I watched the first ever Sioux Falls South Dakota team play in the Little League World Series. That was when I decided I also wanted to play baseball on ESPN, at the LLWS. After talking to my dad about my goals he helped me find opportunities to do off season training, and help me develop as a pitcher and athlete. In 2021 I achieved my first goal, and I had the opportunity to pitch in the LLWS for multiple games. Our team took 4th place that year. Since then I have continued to grow as a baseball player by continuing my training schedule, but I have also developed as an athlete by participating in multiple sports in addition to baseball: football, snowboarding, and track (running the 400m events, shot put, and discus)
This year I heard about an opportunity to try out for a USA baseball team that would be playing in the Latin America Baseball Classic in the Dominican Republic. My dad and I drove 9 hours to the tryout where I made the first cut, a few weeks later after a Zoom interview I was invited to be on the 14U USA team. It was a really cool experience to play very high competition baseball there, but I also really enjoyed getting to bring down 4 suitcases full of donated baseball equipment that we had collected from our area, then I had the opportunity to give the equipment to local kids from the D.R. so they could have the things they need to play baseball too.
School is more difficult for me because of my dyslexia diagnosis, but I realize the importance of school in order for me to meet my goal of playing collage baseball, and potentially beyond college. In the middle of 7th grade I agreed to try a new smaller private school to have smaller class sizes, and to have better access to my dyslexia tutor. Dyslexia does not define me but it has helped make me who I am. It has taught me to work though hard things, look at things in different ways, and never give up. Since switching to Sioux Falls Christian School, my grades have improved and I have found more confidence in my school day and the school work that is expected of me. I think my school will help me be prepared for collage when that day comes.
