My name is Gabbie Russo. I have been competitively cheering since I was six. In addition to all-star cheer, I have cheered and competed with my school’s varsity team since 7th grade. I have won NCA Nationals in 2022 and 2023, as well as many other competitions. My goals are not only to cheer at the collegiate level, but to also succeed and strive to continue to become a better cheerleader and student athlete. It has been my dream to cheer at games and compete at the collegiate level, but I also believe that dreams do not happen without hard work and dedication.
Many of my coaches, teammates, and mom have pushed me to get to the level I am at today. I continually strive to push myself to get better. My mentality of wanting to be the best at everything I do has been motivation for me to work many hours through practices, private lessons, and other ways of working out to become the best I can possibly be. My experience is primarily as a main base and also a secondary base, but I am open to trying any position that is asked of me. I am a very hard worker and will put in as much work as it takes to get to where I need to be. I am also open-minded and determined to continue to learn and improve my skills and abilities to not only improve myself but also my team. Cheer has also fueled my already competitive spirit, as I never back down from any challenge. My determination and positive attitude have allowed me to be a good teammate and leader on several of the teams that I have been a member of. When I was younger, confidence was something I struggled with as a person and athlete, but through perseverance and determination, I have been able to overcome this obstacle and excel in many different areas of my life.
My goals academically are to continue to succeed in my last two years of high school, as my high grades reflect my success, and to thrive in my college courses. I aspire to one day become either an orthopedic doctor or a physical therapist. Cheer has always been important in my life, as it has helped me get through many difficult times, but it has also influenced me to become the person I am today. It has taught me responsibility, leadership, discipline, determination, and many other important qualities too.
