Write about an event in your life that has had a great impact on you
I would say the biggest event that impacted my life was breaking my collar bone during the beginning of my junior year football season. The reason I am pointing this specific event out is because of how much I realized that I depended on my sports to be an outlet of my happiness. Specifically football is something that I love to do. I dedicate my time to football because of the joy and adrenaline that it gave me as an athlete. When I broke my collar bone during the first game of the season I would say that my old mindset would’ve just constantly put myself down for not doing the things I could’ve done to prevent that. I am a very hard critic of myself because I want the best outcome for my future and my success. My new and improved mindset would say that it set me up for confidence I needed to get back into the thing I love the most and that’s football and taking the steps to have my future become a success. Breaking my collar bone not only made me depend on others for help physically but mentally throughout that time. The hardest part about breaking it was not being able to do the thing I love, I lost a lot of motivation for the sport and really drifted away from the thought of contact sports in general. As I recovered I started to realize that the more I took care of myself through the recovery process and also still be a part of the team I left when they needed me the most was to let them know that I’m there and to use others peoples help instead of doing things on my own, which was a valuable lesson I learned through my recovery process. To put this essay into perspective and to give my last final thought about how this event impacted my life. I would say that it made me cherish the people around me and to ultimately never stop wanting to get better for myself and the people around me because they are the people who helped me through such a mental challenging time. My name is Jeramiah Rodriguez and I am a student athlete at Prosser Career Academy.
