My name is Garrett Maxwell Berendson, and I am a high school student-athlete. I was born in the city but raised in the country and love being outdoors and riding around on my ATV. I lived with my mom and still spent lots of time with my dad. However, living with mom and her side of the family, and having many more adults in my life than children my age, I matured faster than most and have been described as an "old soul" by my mom and grandma. I like to read, listen to good music, and love playing games in my spare time, especially with others. I study hard and put my all into the things I'm passionate about. I strive for perfection, but even though it's often impossible to obtain, I learn much from my pursuit of it. As for my present career goal, I plan on becoming a robotics engineer who works in the medical field, possibly in prosthetics design or surgical robotics. I also enjoy meeting new people and am excited to get to know and spend time with other people I meet in college.
When I take the football field during a game I am focused and ready to give it my all so that my team can go farther, get better, and play their best. I bring respect with me onto the field. I do not incite or participate in fights, but rather attempt to stop or prevent them so our focus can be brought back to winning the game. I prefer to let my actions and the scoreboard do my talking. If I make a mistake, I am ready to meet the consequences and learn from it to the best of my ability. I also adapt to my surroundings, opponents, weather, etc. to play my best in the game. As an offensive tackle, I bring my size and skill to the field so together with my team we can be like a machine that is made and maintained by our coaches to do our jobs, make our blocks, score, and win.
I started playing football late, not even knowing the game at all until my freshman year. I did not expect to have the love and devotion I have for this life-changing sport when I first walked into tryouts. Football has taught and continues to teach me life lessons that will stay with me long after my football playing days have passed. I can say now, confidently, that I want to keep playing football while constantly improving in my life for as much and as long as possible. I am determined to extend my football career into my college years and play loyally for the school that wants me at the end of my senior year. I will devote myself fully to my new team, coaches, and school to make myself and those around me better. The game of football has done so much for my life, and I think it is only fair to offer as much of my life that I can back to it to repay it.
