Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Garrett O’Halloran. I am from Pella, Iowa. I play football, basketball, and do track and field. I want to be a starter in the NFL for a Super Bowl-winning team, and a step on the journey to achieve that goal is to play college football.
I haven't always been the most athletic kid. I was never the first pick for anything on the playground. But as my body has grown, I have become more athletic. But, I have also kept the work ethic of the kid that never got picked first. I am coachable, dedicated, and a natural leader.
I was never even supposed to play football. Before having kids, my parents had decided that their sons would not play football because they believed it was extremely dangerous which I can understand. My love for football took over. They finally broke down and let me play flag football in 5th grade. I absolutely fell in love with linebacker. But in my town, flag football ends after 6th grade. So when 7th grade came around and I could only play non-tackle, it looked like my career was over. We finally cracked a deal, if I did research to prove football wasn't extremely dangerous and show the risks involved, then I could play. I hopped on the internet and did it. I convinced them, and I have been playing football ever since. As a side note, my parents are my biggest supporters, and my mom is slowly trying to learn the positions.
