Personal Statement

My name is Cameron Smith, and I am a 2027 graduate. Because I got a late start to playing travel softball, I have felt the need to prove myself over the past year. Switching teams for the first time for fall 2023 season added some pressure. I feel that the best way I can show my coaches I truly want to be on the field and on the team is through always working hard and keeping a positive attitude, as well as hustling as soon as I reach field. I know these may be cliché, but I believe they can truly make the difference between a good player and a great player, that these qualities were taught for a reason.

I also try to prioritize my performance in the classroom, as I know that what I learn now will take me to amazing places later on.

  • For the last year, I have been working with my pitching coach Brit Chileen out of Runnells, Iowa. We've mostly focused on mechanics and staying consistent, as well as a little bit of work on stamina and keeping good mechanics even when getting tired.

  • I have completed 4 seasons of doing shot put at Pella. I started learning and competing in the sport when I was in 7th grade. This season for my sophomore year, I PR'd at just over 30 feet and competed on the JV throws team.
