I have had a love of football from a young age. When I started tackle football in 5th grade, I looked forward to every practice and game, anticipated fun moments and wanting to be like the stars I saw play on Friday nights. In high school football, I found a greater appreciation of the sport, for deeper reasons. The glory moments of winning the big game in overtime, making a huge tackle or seeing a big play break for a touchdown are all very memorable. However, I found that the true reward of playing the game is the satisfaction of climbing that mountain together with your teammates, putting in all of your effort towards one goal, and achieving it as a team. A reward that doesn’t come easily and can only be found in 6 AM workout sessions, sweltering heat of August practices and a year round commitment to that goal. However, when you and your teammates achieve that goal, all of that work pays off in one instant.
A solid work ethic is something I pride myself upon. Raised on a farm, I have learned the meaning of hard work from a young age. As I have grown up and entered high school, that work ethic has translated to the classroom and athletics. I maintain a 4.0 GPA and strive to do my best in every class. I also balance this with working hard in the weight room and the practice field, doing my best to be at every session and improve myself as much as possible while there.
Leadership is something I’ve tried to use and improve throughout my time in school. Boy Scouts taught me basic leadership and how to influence others to do the right thing. As a Life Scout (almost Eagle) I have had many times when leadership was important, especially when leading the younger members of the troop. In high school, being the president of both the Victor 4-H club and the FFA chapter has further honed my leadership skills. I apply these everyday during our off season training, during practices and in games. I strive to push myself and my teammates to give everything we have towards improving ourselves as players and men, on and off the field.
I am searching for a college and team that looks for people who give 110% in their training and everyday lives. I want to play the game I’ve loved since a young age and find a motivated team to climb that mountain with, stand at the peak and have our hard work, determination and resolve all pay off. If you are interested in someone motivated and determined to make it up the mountain for your program, that is a position I’m excited to fill.
