Coach's Comments:

As everyone starts to turn their attention to recruiting for 2019 I just wanted to share what the coaches say about me; both as a player and my character.

Brian McCorquodale, Head Coach, Bishop Carroll: 403-860-8536, [email protected]:. Athletic ability: 9/10, Leadership: 7/10, Team player: 10/10, Easy to work with: 10/10 Ability: "Fast, agile and quick. He is a great tackler and poses a can't quit attitude that helps him as a demon on special teams where he is almost impossible to block." Personality: "Although a little small, Christian has the heart and compete of a lion. He is the kind of kid who goes 100 miles an hour on every play. He is very keen to take on expanded roles, the more he does the better whether that means playing on special teams or going both ways. He is tough and durable and a terrific team player, always caring more about the team's success than his. Take him lightly because of his size, and he'll dominate you all day. A great kid."

Chris Glass, Head Coach, Calgary Bulldogs, [email protected]: Athletic ability: 9/10, Leadership: 10/10, Team player: 10/10, Easy to work with: 10/10: Ability: "He is an undersized player who more than makes up with it by using great technique and speed. He was a very smart player and was rarely out of position. He was also a special teams player who became a good threat to break a return every time the ball was in his hands. "Personality: "Christian is simply a pleasure to coach. He has a great sense of humor and an excellent work ethic. On any team he plays for he should either be in the running for team captain or at least in the conversation. I look forward to seeing him move on to great things later in life. "

Joey Sanchez, Dean of Students / Asst. Football Coach, St. Michael High School: 225-753-9782, [email protected]: Athletic ability: 9/10, Leadership: 10/10, Easy to work with: 10/10, Team player: 10/10, Easy to work with: 10/10: Ability: "Christian is smaller in statue but his heart and work ethic makes up for that. " Personality: "Christian is an outgoing and very likeable young man. He is a leader on the field as well as in school. His work ethic in the weight room and practice field is second to none on our team."

Justin Hutchinson, Head Football Coach, St Michael the Archangel High School: 225-202-4044: [email protected], Athletic ability: 7/10, Leadership: 8/10, Team player: 9/10, Easy to work with: 10/10,Ability: "Christian is a smaller player that plays much bigger than his physical size. Good hips and ball skills. He’s not afraid to make contact. Was a great addition to our defense this year." Personality: "He’s a great young man. Very polite and accepting of criticism and praise. Good in school and in the locker room "

The Advocate (Baton Rouge Newspaper) - “Junior Lance Robinson has rushed for 235 yards and two scores the past two weeks. Receiver Chris Sehring and Brandon Bourgeois are other offensive players to watch. End Luke Wilson, linebacker Kevin Heltz and junior cornerback Christian Redden are players to watch on the St. Michael defense.” The Advocate, October 4, 2017

"UPDATE"

Below is a link to The Advocate (Baton Rouge Newspaper) article in which I was mentioned prior to our game last week. If you have been keeping up with my updates (below) or our through NCSA you will know that I moved to Baton Rouge about two months ago from Calgary Alberta Canada. There was a transition with new coaches and a little different style of play. However, by the third game I had earned a starting cornerback position and after three starts I am being noticed by the local media as a “player to watch”.

I have also completed my transition from my Hudl page in Canada to my current Hudl page for St. Michael. I worked with Hudl to get all of my clips and highlights migrated over. I have also started to mix my highlights from St. Michael, here in Baton Rouge, with my existing highlights in the four disciplines below. This is comprehensive video clips that can be viewed and I will continue to build upon these as the season progresses. I had included links before but with my change to Hudl the old links no longer work.

I was also contacted by Gabe Brooks with Scouts.com. I now have a profile set up on scouts.com and 247sports.

Academically I am transitioning well and currently have a 3.3 GPA for this year so far. I truly desire to continue my football career following high school at a college or university that will offer a good education to prepare me for my future. I have the character and the heart to be an asset to your program.

Here is my latest update.  I am now attending Saint Michael High School in Baton Rouge. New school, new team, new coaches, new schemes, heck different country and new number (20). No one here really knew anything about me and I had to adapt to the American game versus the Canadian game. I did not start the first two games but I finally did earn my way to the starting line up before the third game of the season against Dunham (Baton Rouge) this past Thursday. I had a good outing playing every defensive snap as well as kick/punt coverage. I did not miss a tackle and pretty much shut down my side of the field in coverage. The only reception made within my assigned responsibility was a WR screen in which I immediately made the tackle for no gain. There were no scores on my side of the field. Unfortunately, the hudl film does not show the edges too well and the video during the game went down for a while in the third quarter missing some of my plays that would have been in the frame. I anticipate that my role will be expanded as the season goes on to also returning on special teams and they have started practicing me at WR as well. It was a big move coming from Canada to Louisiana less than two months ago but I am adapting well. I am also doing well academically at Saint Michael High School.  Coach Chris Harrell ([email protected]) is my defensive coordinator at Saint Michael

UPDATE (8/22/17)

Was given notice yesterday that I have officially been ruled eligible by the LHSAA. We have our Jamboree Friday August 25.

UPDATE

Just to provide you an update. I have made it to Baton Rouge and have started attending St. Michael High School here in town. We just completed our first week of practice with an inter-squad scrimmage this morning. I am not only learning a new system but also adjusting to the different techniques taught in American Football as compared to Canadian Football. This will take a little bit of time but I seem to be making good progress. In this first week of practice I have practiced on all special teams (coverage and as a returner), defensive back as well as at receiver. In the scrimmage this morning I participated in over 60% of the plays splitting time at RCB, LCB and FS. I recorded an interception while playing FS. We have our first scrimmage against another team scheduled on Friday August 18.  Academically the first week of school also seems to be going well.

**IMPORTANT UPDATE**

I just wanted to provide a update and let you know the changes that are occurring. My Family will be moving back to Baton Rouge for the first time in 14 years this summer. I will be attending St Michael High School. However, I will be entering the Louisiana High School system as a junior instead of as a senior. There are a couple reasons. First, I have completed classes in Canada that are not recognized in the Louisiana High School System (such as Canadian Legislation) so those credits do not transfer over. The second issue is that there are five classes that are required to be completed to be able to graduate in Louisiana such as American History, American Government, etc. that of course are not required and in some cases not even offered in Canada. The basic Math, Science, Language Arts, etc are good. Due to this my graduation year is now 2019 instead of 2018 as it would have been if we were not moving. The schools systems are very different. High Schools in Calgary are grades 10-12.

I just finished my spring season. My varsity stats for the two years in High School here in Calgary are:

29 Games
159 – Total Tackles
23 – Pass Break-Ups
4 – Interceptions
1 – Pick Six (TD)
3 – Forced Fumbles
2 – Fumble Recoveries

730 – Punt/Kick Return Yards (54 Returns)

66 – Interception Return Yards

25 – Rush Yards

We have been in contact with B.J. Guzzardo of the LHSAA and there should not be an issue with my eligibility for this coming season since I will be transferring to a Catholic School from another Catholic School out of state. The process for eligibility has not been completed but indications are it should work out. Reading the eligibility requirements I may very well may be eligible both years but the second year could be questionable and of course it is left to the discretion of the LHSAA. Transferring from another country is not something that is specifically covered by the LHSAA. If I do not play my second year at St Michael I do not know how that may affect my opportunity to play football in college (at some level) if that is what I choose to pursue. However, the extra year will give me the ability to ensure I am ready academically for college and to be able to work on my physical strength and physical maturity. Plus I will now have the opportunity to attend football camps during the summer of 2018. If you have any advice in this situation that may be helpful that would be appreciated.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hello coaches, I would like to thank you for taking time out of your day to view my profile. My name is Christian Redden and i just finished my Junior High School fall football season and getting ready for the 2017 spring midget junior season. I was born in Louisiana and my family moved to Kentucky in 2003. In 2013 we moved to Calgary Alberta Canada where I attended Saint Stephen’s Junior High for two years making the school’s academic honor roll each year. During Junior High I played club ball for the Calgary Bantam Bulldogs, winning one city and provincial championship.

The 2015-2016 school year was my first in High School as the high schools in Calgary start at grade 10. I continued to perform well academically at Bishop Carroll High School (BCHS) and this past fall I earned the starting right corner back position and played special teams as a sophomore on a team with approximately 50 members. I also competed on track team in both the 100M and 200M meter sprints. I had the city's 11th best time in the 100M and 13th best time in the 200M. I have been training at the Athlete Factory for over a year. I train at this facility twice a week where I attend two strength, one conditioning session and one speed session each week. However, in January 2017 I started training with a personal trainer at 2010 Fitness in Calgary.

I have been playing football for nine seasons now, seven during the fall and two during a spring club season that is available in Calgary.  As a sophomore, I started as corner back on the high school varsity team, while also playing on four special team units. Something that separates me from many others is competitiveness. I rarely line up on someone that is my size, usually having a back or receiver a little bigger. Whether it is press, or deep zone, I compete hard, no matter the size, and never let down. I am built around skill and over the next two years will be focusing on my physical improvement as well as my skill set. On the field, I have the mindset to hit, run and win. Being a defensive back, I am a very adaptable player, and will play any position that I am required to play. As a defensive back, you are required to know who is doing what at every point of the game, leading me to a mentally exceptional aspect of the game. This causes me to be ready every second of the game, knowing that anything can happen. This approach has helped me become a league All-Star Selection during the 2016 spring club season, an All-Star Selection during my  High School junior season in the fall of 2016 as well as the 2016 Hornburg Memorial Award winner.

I am a noble student, athlete and have high character. I will show respect and appreciation to my teammates, coaches, and colleagues. I was always taught to stay classy on and off of the field, and to never give in to the opposing side. Aside from football, I am an intellectual student with well-rounded grades. When I continue my football career in college, I wish to attend a school that offers a good and respected education so I am well prepared for my future. I hope that I can fill your needs as an athlete and once again, thanks for taking your time to view my profile.

My current statistics including one year of Bantam Club in Calgary Alberta Canada. as of 11.23.17

51 Games
260 – Total Tackles
45 – Pass Break-Ups
6 – Interceptions
1 – Pick Six (TD)
3 – Forced Fumbles
3 – Fumble Recovery
2 – Onside Kick Recoveries

777 – Kick Return Yards (57 Returns)

66 – Interception Return Yards

25 – Rush Yards

My statistics could have been even better but the trend has been that I get tested early in the season and avoided later in the season.

Thanks,

Christian Redden

    • GPA is misleading since I completed two years of high school in Canada before moving to Louisiana. Canada has a completely different system with no GPA or letter grades. The conversion of the classes from Canada to the US negatively affected my GPA Two Year Junior High Honor Student Transferring from the Calgary Alberta Canada school system to the Louisiana high school system in 2017.
