Personal Statement
My name is Alfredo Mendoza. I am a senior at Northwest High School in Jackson Michigan. I started playing flag football at the age of four, and continued to play until the age of eight. I was in third grade, when I discovered that tackle football was something that I truly loved and I want to be committed to continue to play. Initially I started playing for the YMCA as part of their flag football youth program, then from the age of four, then I joined the local city recreation department football tackle team from the age of eight until I was 11 years old. At the age of twelve I moved to Northwest Community Schools and I started to play for their football team. I've been with the school district since.
During this season 2021, I had #36 individual tackles, I earned Defensive MVP, and I received All Conference Team Honorable Mention.
Throughout the years I have been able to develop skills that have allowed me to grow as a football player, and continue to work to achieve success. As part of the team I have experienced winning and losing and what I take from that, is that no matter what the outcome of the game is, it serves as a learning experience to improve and bring the team together. A loss is not an absolute failure, because it gives room to learn from our mistakes and continue to work and improve. One of my favorite quotes is from Henry Ford, he reminds us that "Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently." This motivates me and allows me to always look at the positive sides of things, and continue to put effort and most important of all, not to give up!
