Personal Statement
Being brought up to varsity for the playoffs freshman year has had the biggest impact on my athletic career thus far. Our varsity had a great 9-0 regular season which led us to win a district championship and then play in the regional championship. Even though we didn't make it to states we were all proud of what we had accomplished.
The fact that we won a district championship isn't what has changed my way of thinking, and neither was the fact that we had made it to a regional championship. The occurrence that changed my way of thinking was that we had lost that regional championship. We were not ready for our season to be over. I remember sitting there in the locker room, looking around, and seeing all these tough upper classmen crying. Then I realized I was crying too. I reflected back on that moment a few days later and figured out why we were all crying. It was not because we had lost the game. It was because we were going to lose our team. We were going to lose each other. I was changed by this so greatly that I no longer have the mindset of "the game is about me and my goals". It's all about the team now. Football isn't just about winning, trophies, or money; football is about friendship, mentorship, and brotherhood that lasts a lifetime. Of course I would like to get scholarships and make it big, just like everyone else, but what I'm really after is being with my brothers of the grid iron.
I'm looking for a program that is about brotherhood and the team. I've learned the values of putting the team before yourself, and the values of being a leader. A team should have plentiful amounts of people with a leadership mindset. I'm looking for a college that is going to implement those values of being a good teammate and a leader. I want a college that can assure me our team can also be family.
