My name is Matthew Gallegos. I'm a class of 2023 student athlete. A couple things that set me apart from other athletes in my class are my grades and academics. I have a 4.54 GPA and have always been a straight A student. My leadership on my team and mindset of never giving up, putting 100% effort into something and just working hard also set me apart from other athletes. This past season I led my team to the playoffs, for the first time in 20 years that my school has been. I was a captain all year and helped my team every way I could, most notably by switching positions before the season in order to help my team. While I have been on varsity since freshman year, it was my first time playing quarterback on varsity. Despite this I was rewarded 1st team all conference at this position. This is another thing that sets me apart from other athletes is that because I have always been so coachable, and have so much experience playing that I can move around the field to help my team. I think this makes me a great candidate for any college team because I am an intelligent player, with lots of experience, who isn't confined to one position. I have never struggled with playbooks, and feel comfortable playing on both sides of the ball. Since I've been playing football since I was little in pop-warner I gained experience and a love for the game that a lot of my teammates didn't have. I took a lot of the youngers guys under my wing and tried to build them up in confidence and skill in order to help our team succeed. I used my leadership, positive attitude every day at practice, and hard working attitude to help grow my team and set the foundation for a great season this upcoming school year. After seeing what my team can do in making it to the playoffs after a two decade drought I set a new goal for us to make it to the state championship this year. My season goal is to play in the raiders stadium at the end of our season and take a championship home to my school. College wise, it has always been my goal to play in college and make sure my parents don't have to pay for any part of it. No matter what division, state, or size of the college I have always wanted to make it there without my parents having to struggle for it financially. All together, I think my ability to play multiple positions, academics, leadership, coachability, love of the game and hardworking mindset make me a great option for any college looking for a smart athlete willing to do whatever it takes to get on the field.
