I am Zachary A Bowling, 5’11 200lb senior starting running back, 4 year letterman and one of three captains for the Cave Spring Knights in Roanoke, VA. I LOVE sports; but mostly football and basketball. I have played sports my entire life I have tried almost all of them. Football and basketball are my passion they are what drive me. Last year when I tore my ACL in the first scrimmage of the season, I was devastated. The previous year I ended the season with over 1800 all purpose yards, and 12 rushing TD’s. To date I have had a record breaking game with 405 yards rushing breaking the school rushing yards for one game, and tieing the amount of TD’s scored in a single game which was 5, I could have broke that record too but my coach had me to run out of bounds. It was only the second game of the season so there is plenty of games left this season.
But my passion drove me to in my rehab and training to come back bigger, stronger and faster than before. Even during the most adverse moment of my life I had to show that I was not broken. In addition to my rehab and training to get back on the field and after football the court I attended all practices and games with my teammates, my brothers in sport. I did not want them to think at any moment that I wasn’t with them. In my leadership role on our football teams policy council and as a captain this year I try to do all that I can to lead and inspire greatness. I try to always make time for others if they need me, if you want to go workout, go for a run, or go to the gym I try to always be available. When I see some of the younger kids that recognise me and they come to speak I also try to say hi. My work in rehab, training and with my team this summer has made my passion more resolved. Everyone does not have the same passion but when you find yours put all your heart and soul into it as I do. It doesn’t matter if it is education, the environment, or whatever. I am hoping that my passion will be a stepping stone to my education and possibly the ultimate passion to play in the NFL. But, even if I don’t make it to the NFL I will make my mark in some type of sports arena; marketing, broadcasting, coaching whatever I am lead to do.
