I started playing basketball in 3rd grade. It quickly became my favorite sport but it didn't come without its challenges. Two years ago I was tested mentally and physically. I had to transfer from a private to a public school my 8th grade year. This had me ineligible to play my 8th grade year due to the local junior high athletic association guidelines. Even though I knew I couldn’t play, I asked the coach if I could still come out to practice and travel with the team. He gave me permission and I didnt take it for granted. I showed up to every practice and game that year. That experience helped me become a better person on and off the floor. I learned what it means to strive for what you want even when things are not going your way. Knowing I should be on the floor during the games was hard but it revealed to me how much I truly loved the game! So I kept putting in the time and effort in practice to become a better teammate, leader, and ultimately a better player. I am now more determined than ever to play at the next level.
My goal at the next level is to earn a degree in engineering. I have always enjoyed math and science which has influenced my pursuit of engineering. Specifically, I am interested in aerospace, nuclear and computer engineering. I would like to attend a program that would help me achieve this. I want to achieve this goal while also playing basketball at a highly competitive program. I have the desire to play at the next level but also the personality, work-ethic and leadership skills to help my team. I lead through my actions. I am willing to play the role that my team needs. I can be the player that puts my teammates in the best position to score, play tough defense and fight for rebounds or be willing to have the ball in my hands when the game is on the line. I will be the first one to show up in the gym and the last to leave because I believe that hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. I will not be the player with talent that refuses to put in the work on the floor or in the classroom.
